The Most Spectacular Drag Races Of September

Last month saw some incredible drag strip battles: here's the best of them.

The previous compilation of seven incredible, close-to-call drag races was always going to be hard to beat, but amazingly this month the drag races have been faster, louder, and even closer to call. The best way to enjoy the following videos is to view the machinery in action, pick your favorite, and then watch to see i you guessed correctly. There are some incredible cars on display, with neck-and-neck finishes, so let us know how you get on in the comments.

World's Greatest Drag Race 8

Every year, MotorTrend's Best Driver's car determines which is the most fun driver's car on sale. In the end, the cars selected line up in a drag race to see which is fastest, although the results don't always determine the overall winner.

This year, World's Greatest Drag Race featured the McLaren 720S, Porsche 911 GT2 RS, Honda Civic Type R, Lamborghini Huracán Performante, BMW M5, Ford Mustang GT, Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio, Kia Stinger GT, Audi TT RS, Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, Mazda MX-5, and the Aston Martin Vantage.

BMW M5 Vs. Mercedes-AMG E63 S Vs. Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid

Few sedans are faster than the BMW M5, Mercedes E63 S, and Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid. Each produces over 600 horsepower from a twin-turbo V8 engine but the Porsche leads the pack with an electrically-assisted 680 hp.

Is the hybrid boost enough to give the Porsche the edge over the BMW and the Mercedes?

Nissan GT-R Vs. Yamaha R1

This a unique drag race because it features a tuned GT-R with over 950 hp going up against an extremely fast motorcycle. The video has a lot of filler that isn't in English, but you can skip to the eight-minute mark to see the outcome.

Porsche 911 GT2 RS Vs. Lamborghini Huracan Peformante

Among the current hardcore, track-focused sports cars, few are more intoxicating than the Porsche 911 GT2 RS and Lamborghini Huracan Performante. The Porsche holds the power advantage with 700 hp from a twin-turbo flat-six while the Lamborghini makes due with "only" 630 hp from a V10. The Lamborghini does have the AWD advantage, so which will win in a drag race?

Ford Edge ST Vs. Focus ST and Fiesta ST

Ford plans to discontinue all sedan and hatchback models for the US market, which means cars like the Fiesta ST and Focus ST will be lost. This is sad news. Instead, Ford will make ST models based on SUVs like the Edge and the company wants to show us that it won't be such a big loss.

The Edge ST looks extremely quick in a drag race against its ST brethren, but will it be as fun to drive?

Volkswagen Up GTI Vs. Original Golf GTI

Even though it isn't sold in the US market, the Volkswagen Up GTI is one of our favorite hot hatchbacks. It produces just 113 hp from a 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbo but only weight 2,200 pounds. In fact, the new Up GTI is extremely close to the performance of the original Golf GTI. So, which would win in a drag race?

Hennessey Trackhawk Vs. Ford GT

The Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is faster than most SUVs have the right to be but it isn't as fast as a true supercar like the Ford GT. Hennessey decided to change that by equipping the Trackhawk with the company's HPE1000 kit, bringing the power up from 707 hp to 1,000 hp. Will it be enough to take down the GT?

Lamborghini Urus Vs. Huracan and Aventador

The Lamborghini Urus can embarrass many supercars with its twin-turbo V8 producing 650 hp. While the Urus is incredibly fast for an SUV, we don't think it could take down the two supercars in its family, the Huracan and Aventador. Or, could it?

Tuned BMW M5 Vs. Porsche 911 Turbo S

The latest BMW M5 is an extremely quick car, as we've seen from previous races. However, we don't think it would be quite fast enough to be a Porsche 911 Turbo S. But this M5 has been tuned to produce 750 hp. Will that be enough to take down the 911?

Audi R8 Vs. Lamborghini Aventador S

This last race may seem like a foregone conclusion. How could an Audi R8 beat a Lamborghini Aventador S in a drag race? Well, let's just say this Audi R8 has a trick up its sleeve and the race may not be as one-sided as you think.
