Mercedes-AMG GT Four-Door Coupe Final Teaser Image Is Fiery Awesome

This week at Geneva is the big premiere.

Exactly one year ago at Geneva Mercedes-AMG unveiled its stunning four-door GT Concept, and it was pretty darn close to production ready. That was very much on purpose because this week at this year’s Swiss show the real deal will have its debut. Mercedes-AMG has just released a pair of final teaser images of its upcoming Porsche Panamera fighter and, needless to say, we’re stoked. Aside from the previous spy shots we’ve seen, quite a few details about this powerful four-door are already mostly known.

Under its hood will lie the familiar 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that could develop over 600 hp. However, it’s the hybrid variant, set to compete directly against the 671 hp Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid, that’s particularly exciting. Why? Try an expected 800 hp, or so. However, we still don’t know its official name and we kind of doubt AMG GT Four-Door will be the chosen designation. Then again, we could be wrong. The two-door AMG GT on sale right now is built on its own unique platform, so don't think of this new four-door as simply a stretched version of the coupe. Instead, it's built on a modified version of the platform underpinning the E-Class and new CLS.

In any case, full details, specs and photos are only a couple of days away. Chances are, there were will be a few executives from Porsche making their way over to the Mercedes-AMG stand to check out the new competition for themselves. McLaren, Porsche, And Mercedes-AMG Street Race Ends In Tears

Four people were injured in the crash involving three supercars and a Toyota Prado.

If you're a car enthusiast, seeing expensive exotics reduced to mangled wrecks is a heart-breaking sight. We recently mourned the loss of a Koenigsegg Agera RS in Switzerland, and now not one, not two, but three high performance supercars have been involved in a nasty-looking smash-up on a highway in Columbia. The crash involved a McLaren 650S, Porsche Boxster S, and Mercedes-AMG GT S after one of the cars collided with a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado.

According to a social media post by Fuel Car Magazine, the accident may have been caused by an unexpected lane change in the wet conditions at high speed. The Mirror also reports that excessive speed was a factor according to Colonel Fabio Saavedra of the Highway Police of Cundinamarca. No surprise there.

The publication reports that one of the supercars lost control in the wet conditions, crossed lanes, and slammed into the oncoming Toyota. It then veered back into its original lane and hit the other two supercars. All four drivers had to be cut free from their wrecked vehicles by fire fighters. Thankfully, nobody was killed, but four people were injured and are said to be in a stable condition in hospital. Each supercar suffered significant damage and will likely be written off. The front fascia of the McLaren has been completely ripped off, as has one of the sides and the rear. Both the Porsche Boxster S and Mercedes-AMG GT S suffered similar damage and were left with crumpled front ends.

We don’t think those wounds will buff out easily, somehow. As for the innocent driver in the Toyota Prado that got caught up in the accident, the mid-sized SUV can be seen in a ditch on the side of the highway but doesn’t look as damaged as the supercars. Apparently, this particular stretch of highway is popular with street racers on weekends which probably explains the circumstances of the crash. It never ceases to amaze us why some people think racing on a public road with traffic is a good idea, because this is usually the result.

Mercedes-AMG GT Four-Door Coupe Prepares To Take On The Panamera

Latest images show the four-door Mercedes-AMG GT being tested in a wind tunnel before its Geneva reveal.

The four-door Mercedes-AMG GT concept was undoubtedly one of the stars of last year’s Geneva Motor Show, but we’ll finally get to see the final production version at this year’s show. It should be wroth the wait, because the concept was an absolute stunner. In the run up to its Geneva Motor Show reveal next month, Mercedes is continuing to tease the upcoming super sedan, with new images showing it being tested in a wind tunnel to optimize the car’s aerodynamics.

"Final tests will be carried out in the wind tunnel before the new member of the AMG GT family has its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show," Mercedes teased. It’s still covered in camouflage of course, but the teaser photos provide a clearer look at the four-door AMG GT’s curvaceous body as it prepares to take on the Porsche Panamera. The design of the rear seems to be inspired by the AMG GT, while the rest of the design appears to take its cues from the CLS. We still don’t have an official name for the sports sedan either, as Mercedes is still referring to it as the “four-door AMG GT Coupe” but rumored names include the GT4 or GTC4.

Reports suggest the GT4 will be powered by AMG’s ubiquitous 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, but we don’t know how much power it generates yet. In the new E63 S, the same unit produces up to 603 horsepower. There’s a strong chance the GT4 range will include an electrified powertrain in the future, too – particularly as last year’s concept was revealed with an electric motor in addition to a 4.0-liter V8, providing a total output of 805 horsepower. Essentially, the GT4 will replace the outgoing CLS 63, which was scrapped to make way for the super sedan. Look out for the premiere of the four-door AMG GT in production form at Geneva, which opens its doors to the public March 8.
