New Porsche Cayman GT4 Caught Carving Up The Nurburgring

It’s expected to pack the same naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six as the 911 GT3.

As we know, Porsche is preparing to unleash a new 718 Cayman GT4. We last saw a prototype of the 2019 model undergoing winter testing, and now the German sports car has been caught flexing its muscles at the Nurburgring without wearing any camouflage to hide its modesty. As we’ve come to expect from Porsche, these latest spy shots confirm the styling won’t be a drastic departure from the outgoing model – but looks can be very deceiving.

For the 2019 Cayman GT4, the previous model’s 3.8-liter engine will be replaced by a larger 4.0-liter flat-six naturally aspirated mill borrowed from the potent 911 GT3. Porsche’s own Andreas Preuninger once said the company’s GT cars will stay naturally-aspirated for one more generation, and he seems to be staying true to that promise. Of course, Porsche isn’t going to let the cheaper Cayman GT4 invade the superior 911 GT3’s territory, which is why the manufacturer is expected to detune the engine down to around 400 horsepower. This would give it a sufficient power advantage over the Boxster and Cayman GTS without treading on the toes of its bigger brother, the 500-hp 911 GT3.

The new Porsche Cayman GT4 is also expected to be offered with either a manual transmission or an optional PDK to satisfy both purists and lap-time chasers alike. A track-only Clubsport version is also expected to break cover in early 2019, but Porsche will most likely unveil the new road-going Cayman GT4 at the Paris Auto Show before then in October, so be sure to have your checkbook ready.

2019 Porsche 911 Caught Practically Naked Yet Again

The new Porsche 911 is expected to break cover at the Paris Auto Show in October.

Porsche seems to be having a hard time keeping the 992-generation 991 under wraps, as not one but two prototypes have been caught almost completely undisguised following online leaks and other recent sightings. This time, a red example has joined the blue model that was spotted last month. On closer inspection, some sections have been covered up, but we still get a clear view of the production model potentially months before the official reveal.

Of the two, the blue model is more elegant and features the sport exhaust suggesting we could be looking at the new Carrera S, while the red model sports a beefier quad exhaust setup. Overall, the design changes are evolutionary rather than revolutionary, just as you would expect from a new 911. There are some key changes under the skin, however.

The 992-generation Porsche 911 rides on an updated MMB platform, which is stronger and stiffer and can incorporate hybrid powertrains. Because of this, the new 911 is also slightly longer and looks more muscular with wider wheel arches. At the front are new LED headlights, which have been covered up in tape, along with a redesigned front bumper with large intakes at each corner. Slim taillights are connected by a full-width light bar that remind us of the Taycan.

In terms of powertrains, the base 992 Carrera is expected to produce around 400 hp a flat-six engine, while the output of the Carrera S could increase to 450 hp and the range-topping Turbo S will allegedly pack 620 hp. A hybrid version will also join the range for the first time in the model’s history, which is expected to be the most powerful 911 ever made packing 700 hp. The 2019 Porsche 911 is expected to break cover at the Paris Motor Show in October, so we shouldn’t have long to wait to find out all the details.

2019 Porsche Macan Facelift Caught With Barely Any Camo

This is our best look yet at the updated 2019 Porsche Macan.

It’s no secret that Porsche’s best-selling model, the Macan SUV, is getting a facelift for the 2019 model year to help keep it fresh. Ahead of its official reveal, our spies managed to snap some photos of a pre-production model finished in bright green, giving us a better idea of what the final model will look like. The answer is very similar to the current model. After all, Porsche doesn’t want to jeopardize a successful formula - last year, the Macan nearly doubled the Cayenne's sales, helping Porsche achieve a record sales year.

There’s hardly any camouflage covering the Macan’s modesty, but, like other updated Porsches, the styling changes are very subtle. The front bumper has been redesigned with a wider lower opening, and the headlights and taillights have been restyled judging from the foil covering them up. At the back, the shape of the quad exhaust tips suggests we’re looking at a pre-production version of the range-topping Turbo model. The real changes, however, will be found under the hood. The four-cylinder engine powering the base model will deliver closer to 300 horsepower compared to the 252 horses the current model produces.

There will be no diesel option, and the range-topping Turbo will get a new 2.9 liter V6 engine taken from the new Porsche Panamera replacing the current 3.6-liter unit. Do not despair, because power is expected to increase to 434 hp to match the outgoing Macan fitted with the optional Performance Pack. A fully electric version is also expected to join the lineup. Whether these changes are enough to keep the Macan fresh remains to be seen, as the SUV is starting to show its age four years after being introduces. Keep in mind that it will still be based on the last-generation Audi Q5 - we’ll have to wait until 2021 for the all-new Macan to arrive with a new platform.
