2019 Porsche 911 Caught Practically Naked Yet Again

The new Porsche 911 is expected to break cover at the Paris Auto Show in October.

Porsche seems to be having a hard time keeping the 992-generation 991 under wraps, as not one but two prototypes have been caught almost completely undisguised following online leaks and other recent sightings. This time, a red example has joined the blue model that was spotted last month. On closer inspection, some sections have been covered up, but we still get a clear view of the production model potentially months before the official reveal.

Of the two, the blue model is more elegant and features the sport exhaust suggesting we could be looking at the new Carrera S, while the red model sports a beefier quad exhaust setup. Overall, the design changes are evolutionary rather than revolutionary, just as you would expect from a new 911. There are some key changes under the skin, however.

The 992-generation Porsche 911 rides on an updated MMB platform, which is stronger and stiffer and can incorporate hybrid powertrains. Because of this, the new 911 is also slightly longer and looks more muscular with wider wheel arches. At the front are new LED headlights, which have been covered up in tape, along with a redesigned front bumper with large intakes at each corner. Slim taillights are connected by a full-width light bar that remind us of the Taycan.

In terms of powertrains, the base 992 Carrera is expected to produce around 400 hp a flat-six engine, while the output of the Carrera S could increase to 450 hp and the range-topping Turbo S will allegedly pack 620 hp. A hybrid version will also join the range for the first time in the model’s history, which is expected to be the most powerful 911 ever made packing 700 hp. The 2019 Porsche 911 is expected to break cover at the Paris Motor Show in October, so we shouldn’t have long to wait to find out all the details.

Next Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet Spied Running Around Nearly Naked

The camouflage continues to peel away, this time at the Nurburgring.

Here’s what we know: Porsche is hard at work developing the next generation 911 lineup. At this point, the 992 911 Carrera should be nearly good to go, as it’ll reportedly make its official debut this fall at the Paris Motor Show. Other variants will soon follow, such as the next 911 Turbo. While we’ve already seen some spy shots of the 992 911 Turbo coupe, today, for the first time, our spy photographers have spotted the new 911 Turbo convertible out testing in very familiar turf: the Nurburgring. How can we tell this is the Turbo and not the Carrera?

Just look at its wider fenders and the big rear spoiler. Sources tell us the 992 911 Turbo coupe and convertible will come powered by the must-have flat-six, which will of course be twin turbocharged. Total output is projected to be somewhere in the neighborhood of around 600 hp. Anything less wouldn’t be good. Why? Because the current generation 911 Turbo S already produces 580 hp, so there’s no way Porsche could reduce output in this case. Power will be directed to all four wheels through the latest version of Porsche’s highly regarded seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission. Looking more closely at these photos, it’s kind of hard to make out some of the Turbo’s details.

Thanks to previous shots of the coupe version testing, however, we can see Porsche has done a nice job with the styling updates. For example, up front there are double LED light strips encased in the front grille. The hood extends all the way to the bumper, a styling trait borrowed from the classic 911. This time, however, there’s a far more clear view of final shape of the air intakes on the rear fenders. We’ll learn a lot more about the 992 911 Turbo throughout the year as hype will continue to build following the 992 Carrera’s debut. So when will we see the new Porsche 911 Turbo? Based on Porsche’s reveal history, new 911 Turbos launch roughly one year following the 911 Carrera’s debut, meaning Frankfurt 2019 is a very good bet in this case.
