Porsche literally guaranteed itself a sales hit when it launched the Macan back in 2014. But that was nearly five years ago so it’s time for a mid-life refresh. Now, automotive refreshes vary widely, from a minor nip/tuck to a serious overhaul just shy of a complete redesign. Guess which of the two Porsche prefers? The heavily refreshed 2019 Macan will be making its debut very soon, and Porsche is convinced it’ll continue to be its number one seller throughout the second half of its life. We don’t doubt that, but the competition is catching up fast.

This new video from Porsche is, more or less, a warning sign to those competitors declaring that refreshed Macan is more than ready for battle. It’s reportedly undergone extensive changes, mostly under the skin, such as expected new engines and other related components. Chances are a diesel variant will not be offered, at least in the US. However, a plug-in hybrid is expected. We can also see from the prototypes shown here testing in South Africa that the headlights and taillights have been updated.

The interior is also said to receive some extensive modifications. Considering the timing of this new video, a Paris debut this October is sounding like a strong possibility. Watching these Macan prototypes undergo final high altitude testing in South Africa is no doubt impressive. Remember, Porsche considers the Macan the sports car of SUVs, but most owners will require more than just fast highway drives. They need the capability of an SUV as well, though not quite at the level of, say, a Jeep Wrangler. Rock crawling isn’t a hobby for everyone, but driving on some rough surfaces is certainly a requirement for all.

2019 Acura NSX Refreshed With New Shade Of Orange (And Higher Price Tag)

Chassis and ECU upgrades also make it even more capable both on road and track.

The Acura NSX has been at the forefront of the hybrid supercar segment ever since its launch in 2015. To keep at the top of the pile, and to make it both more usable on day-to-day driving and even more engaging on the track, the 2019 model year has been revealed with a range of tweaks and enhancements.

On the suspension front, the stabilizers have been increased in stiffness by 26 percent upfront and 19 percent in the rear. Along with stiffer bushes, this makes for a more responsive chassis than before. The Sport Hybrid SH-AWD power unit has also been recalibrated to make sure that the active magnetorheological dampers provide an even more comfortable ride in their softest setting despite the stiffer setup.

Powertrain updates include new injectors, the heat response of the turbocharger has been enhanced, and a new particulate filter allows the NSX to comply with the latest emissions standards.

The standard fitment tire is now the Continental SportContact 6. Developed exclusively for the Acura NSX, these tires improve responsiveness as well as both wet and dry weather grip. The combination of these changes allow the NSX to lap the Japanese Suzuka circuit two seconds faster than the 2018 model.

Exterior changes include a new pearlescent paint color called Thermal Orange, for the full effect you can now also have your brake calipers finished in orange too. If you are brave enough you can combine this new color with the newly available full red leather upholstery option.

Less daring types can opt for one of the more subdued interior finishes like the new Indigo Blue leather/Alcantara combo. The front grille is now finished in a body color upper section and the mesh inserts are now painted a gloss-black both front and rear.

Acura has also announced that the 2019 model will carry a price tag of $157,500, an increase of $1,500 over the 2018 model.

The mid-life refresh for the 2018 Acura TLX may not be quite good enough to make it a true BMW 3 Series fighter, but it’s still a better sedan than it was previously. Acura has revealed the facelifted TLX sedan here at the 2017 New York Auto Show and immediately we think it looks better, entirely because of its new front end styling. Gone is that chrome moustache look. In its place is the stretched pentagon grille that already debuted on the MDX crossover.

Although the front-wheel-drive platform is the same, Acura claims the TLX has a "more aggressive and sporty look" inspired by last year’s Acura Precision Concept. Power comes from either a 2.4-liter VTEC four-cylinder with 206 hp or the optional 3.5-liter V6 with 290 hp. We previously recommended opting for the V6 because it comes with Acura’s Super Handling All-Wheel Drive system. Now it’s being offered on all V6 TLX models, instead of only those equipped with the Technology or Advance Packages. Also new for 2018 is the TLX A-Spec trim, available in FWD or AWD, featuring an exclusive front fascia, round LED fog lights, aggressive side sills, rear diffuser with integrated dual-exhaust finishers, and a gloss black decklid spoiler.

A set of dark finish 19-inch wheels and a sport-tuned suspension, stiffer spring rate and a rear stabilizer bar help to add a sportier feel to the car, but we can’t imagine the TLX suddenly becoming a proper luxury sport sedan overnight. The interior is also improved somewhat, and the A-Spec, specifically, offers sport-oriented refinements and premium features such as leather seats with increased bolstering, red driver’s meter highlights, brushed aluminum-look trim, and a thicker steering wheel. For what it’s worth, there’s red or black leather with Alcantara seat and door inserts. There’s also the standard AcuraWatch suite of safety technologies.

More importantly, the 2018 TLX offers a refreshed dual-screen, which supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. We were never big fans of this dual-screen design, so here’s hoping this one is easier to figure out. Official pricing and on-sale date will be released in due course.
