You Have To Watch These 10 Amazing Drag Races

A supercar showdown and a race against a drone are just two of the 10 awesome races.

Following our previous drag race compilation, we have ten more awesome races to shared for your viewing pleasure. As always, watching these races is more exciting if you try to guess the winner. See how many correct predictions you can make and leave your score in the comments. With more than a few neck-and-neck finishes, these races are not always easy to predict.

Ferrari 812 Superfast Vs. McLaren 720S

Very few cars can match the fury of the McLaren 720S with its 4.0-liter, 710 horsepower V8. Perhaps the Ferrari 812 Superfast may be one of the,. With a 6.5-liter V12 producing 789 hp, can the front-engined Ferrari top the mid-engined McLaren?

Mercedes C63 AMG Vs. Alfa Romeo Giulia QV

In the compact sports sedan segment, the Mercedes C63 AMG and Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio sit at the top in terms of power. Each produces over 500 hp from their twin-turbo engines, though the AMG does have two extra cylinders (a V8 vs a V6). Which one will win in a series of races, with and without launch control?

Audi RS3 Vs. Ford Focus RS

The Ford Focus RS is one of the best hot hatchbacks on the market, but can it stand up to the mighty Audi RS3? Both cars have all-wheel-drive grip, but the Audi has an extra cylinder (five) and 50 extra hp (400). With a quick shifting dual-clutch transmission, the Audi also holds the advantage with shift times. Will this race be a foregone conclusion?

Ultimate Supercar Drag Race

Most drag races involve two cars, competing to see which is best. Here, we get to see two Porsche 911s (a GT3 RS and a GT2 RS), a Lamborghini Huracan Performante Coupe and Spyder, a Ferrari 488 GTB, and a McLaren 675 LT. This is a very diverse lineup of supercars, but which one do you think will win as the cars face off against each other?

Nissan GT-R Nismo Vs. Porsche 911 GT3 RS

After a massive hiatus, Fifth Gear is finally back on television. The series's 27 season features a drag race between the Nissan GT-R Nismo and the Porsche 911 GT3 RS. Even though the GT-R is typically seen as the better car for drag races, the track-focused 911 may be within a shot of winning this straight line race.

Dodge Challenger Vs. Dodge Viper

In a sibling rivalry, this drag race pits a Dodge Challenger Scat Pack against a fourth generation Dodge Viper. The Challenger seems like it will be at a disadvantage in this race, even with a 485-hp 6.4-liter V8. The Viper has a more powerful 600-hp 8.4-liter V10, but the driver does have to execute the perfect manual shift while the Challenger owner can just let the automatic take care of it.

Bugatti Chiron Vs. McLaren 720S

The McLaren 720S is borderline unbeatable in a drag race. However, even the 720S may have to admit defeat when it's up against a Bugatti Chiron. The Chiron's W16 engine produces 1,500 hp, making it twice as powerful as the mighty 720S. You can probably guess the winner here.

Audi S8 Plus Vs. Porsche 911 Turbo

If someone who didn't know anything about cars looked at this drag race, they'd assume the sexy sports car would beat the boring sedan. Stands to reason. However, that "boring" sedan is an Audi S8 Plus, which is powered by a 605-hp twin-turbo V8. The Porsche 911 Turbo makes do with just 520 hp, though it is much lighter. Can the sleeper sedan keep up with the purpose-built sports car?

AMG GT Roadster Vs. Drone

Seeing cars race other cars is fun, but seeing a car race a drone is pretty cool too. The Mercedes AMG GT Roadster produces 467 hp from a twin-turbo V8, while the drone doesn't have nearly as much power. Still, the drone is able to hit 60 mph in just one second. Yeah, you heard that correctly. This race was over before it started.

GMC Sierra Vs. Nissan Titan Vs. Ram 1500

We highly doubt that truck owners base their purchase decision on straight line speed, but this didn't stop The Fast Lane Truck from lining up three trucks for a drag race. The GMC Sierra is the most powerful with a 6.2-liter 420-hp V8. The Titan's 5.7-liter V8 produces 390 hp while the Ram's 5.7-liter is good for 395 hp. As it turns out, the transmissions have more to do with the outcome of the race than the engines. So, which do you think has the best transmission for a drag race?

Watch A Porsche 911 Turbo S Plow Its Way Up A Snow-Covered Ski Slope

All-wheel drive plus 580 hp is awesome.

It’s not unusual to hear people say the Porsche 911 is the ideal sports car. For over 50 years, the butt-engined two-door has helped define what exactly makes a sports car and it’s showing no signs of stopping any time soon. But did you also that for 30 years Porsche has been building all-wheel drive 911s as well? What started as experimental technology on the also iconic 959 supercar has become an extremely popular feature for many 911 buyers, and for very good reason. Not everyone lives in year-round snow-free environments.

Nor should you have to in order to have a 911, hence available AWD. It also just so happens to be standard on the 911 Turbo S. Combined with 580 hp, the 911 Turbo S is, perhaps, the perfect everyday high-performance machine that balances the fine line between sports and supercar.

To show just how capable the AWD 911 Turbo S can be, Porsche brought one to a Scottish ski slope and instructed its driver to drive up the snow-covered mountainside. Speed was not the goal but rather the capabilities of the AWD system. The professional driver probably makes things look easier than they really are, but the fact of the matter is that the 911 Turbo S is your year-round high-performance/supercar. Try not to have too much fun.

Watch Porsche Beat The Crap Out Of The Refreshed Macan Off-Road

On road performance is one thing, but driving over rocks is something else.

Porsche literally guaranteed itself a sales hit when it launched the Macan back in 2014. But that was nearly five years ago so it’s time for a mid-life refresh. Now, automotive refreshes vary widely, from a minor nip/tuck to a serious overhaul just shy of a complete redesign. Guess which of the two Porsche prefers? The heavily refreshed 2019 Macan will be making its debut very soon, and Porsche is convinced it’ll continue to be its number one seller throughout the second half of its life. We don’t doubt that, but the competition is catching up fast.

This new video from Porsche is, more or less, a warning sign to those competitors declaring that refreshed Macan is more than ready for battle. It’s reportedly undergone extensive changes, mostly under the skin, such as expected new engines and other related components. Chances are a diesel variant will not be offered, at least in the US. However, a plug-in hybrid is expected. We can also see from the prototypes shown here testing in South Africa that the headlights and taillights have been updated.

The interior is also said to receive some extensive modifications. Considering the timing of this new video, a Paris debut this October is sounding like a strong possibility. Watching these Macan prototypes undergo final high altitude testing in South Africa is no doubt impressive. Remember, Porsche considers the Macan the sports car of SUVs, but most owners will require more than just fast highway drives. They need the capability of an SUV as well, though not quite at the level of, say, a Jeep Wrangler. Rock crawling isn’t a hobby for everyone, but driving on some rough surfaces is certainly a requirement for all.

Watch The New Porsche Cayman GT4 Do Some Wicked Cool Power Slides

At the Nurburgring, no less.

Porsche is conducting the final testing phase for its next 718 Cayman GT4. Our spy photographers have caught prototypes testing at the Nurburgring a few times in the past, but today they managed to take a video of a very thinly disguised test mule doing some power sides. Of course it’s taking place at the Nurburgring, where else for testing at this level?

Like the current GT4, the next one will once again feature a naturally aspirated flat-six engine, as opposed to the turbocharged options in the rest of the 718 Cayman/Boxster lineup (the next Boxster Spyder, of course, is the exception). But instead of the current GT4’s 3.8-liter, Porsche is swapping it with the same 4.0-liter unit that also powers the latest 911 GT3.

Considering the GT4 is smaller and lighter than the 911 GT3, does it mean it’ll be better than its bigger sibling? Chances are no, and here’s why: Porsche can’t allow a lesser model to dethrone the 911 GT3. The 911 GT3 RS and GT2 RS are slotted above the GT3. While the current GT3 produces 500 hp, chances are Porsche will slightly detune that figure to around 450 hp or so.

Power, of course, will be direct to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual or optional PDK gearbox. The near-production GT4 featured here is quite revealing, showing details like its large rear fixed wing, rear diffuser, and some serious front end work in the name of downforce. Strangely, Porsche covered the Porsche badge at the front of the hood, as if no one knew this was a Porsche from the get-go. So, when will the big unveiling happen? We think it’ll be at either Paris in October or LA the following month.

Pricing will likely be similar to the previous GT4, which started at around $85,000. Since it’s been out of production for some time, Porsche must be anxious to get its successor into the marketplace. Will it be the last naturally aspirated 718 Cayman GT4? Only time will tell.

Watch And Weep As A Porsche 911 GT3 Burns To A Crisp

We don’t think this will buff out, somehow.

It’s not uncommon to see some spectacular car wrecks at the Nurburgring as overconfident drivers push their driving skills far beyond their limits. In this case, however, it wasn’t the fault of the driver as this Porsche 911 GT3 burst into flames without warning while being driven around the Green Hell. Sadly, by the time the emergency services showed up to extinguish the blaze, it was too late to save the German sports car.

A video taken at the scene shows how the 911 GT3 quickly became engulfed in flames. Luckily, the driver wasn’t hurt in the incident but the same can’t be said for the car, which was totally destroyed in the fire and reduced to a burnt out shell.

The incident happened at the exit of Adenauer Forst. The fire started at the back of the car, which was caused by oil leaking onto the hot exhaust according to a comment posted on the video. As a result, the Nurburgring was closed for two hours while firefighters tackled the blaze.

The 911 GT3 that caught on fire appears to be a 991.2 generation model. Why is this significant?

As you may recall, back in 2014 the 991.2 generation GT3 was recalled due to a fire risk. The 3.8-liter motor had a loosened piston-rod screw connection, which damaged the crankcase. These faulty engines were replaced, but some owners started to experience misfires at high RPMs.

After receiving several complaints, Porsche then extended the warranty to 100,000 miles or 10 years. When designing the new 991.2 GT3, engineers developed a new 4.0-liter unit designed to prevent the problems of its predecessor, and no incidents have been reported so far.

Watch Maroon 5’s Adam Levine Take The Porsche Mission E For A Spin

The rock star thinks EVs “don’t have a soul”. Can the Porsche Mission E change his mind?

Just last week, we saw former racing driver Mark Webber tame an advanced prototype of the Porsche Mission E at the automaker’s test track in Weissach, Germany. It got his seal of approval, with Webber describing the German automaker’s first fully electric car as a “game changer.” But then he would say that because he works as Porsche’s brand representative. That doesn’t mean we should devalue his opinion though, as his input into the Mission E’s development will be invaluable to Porsche.

This time, however, Porsche invited rock star Adam Levine, the lead singer of Maroon 5, to get behind the wheel of the electric sedan, who obviously doesn’t have any professional affiliation with Porsche unlike Webber. So why did Porsche use Levine to promote the Mission E? Because he's a hardcore Porsche fanatic who's owned a 1958 356A Speedster for ten years.

However, he isn’t a fan of EVs because they “don’t have a soul”. Can the Porsche Mission E change his mind? Since the video is obviously sponsored by Porsche, the answer is yes. Unlike Webber, who drove a Panamera-based test mule, Levine got to drive the Mission E concept car, and came away impressed with its performance and handling. Ultimately, the video doesn’t tell us anything new about the Mission E, but it’s still rare to see it on the move. Clearly, Porsche is worried that introducing a fully electric car could alienate hardcore fans of the brand, which explains why a long-time fan of the automaker like Levine was hired to reassure us.

At one point, he asks the instructor how much power the Mission E has. She jokes it has “more than you can handle,” but Webber already confirmed the production version will have more than 600 horsepower thanks to two electric motors. Porsche claims the Mission E concept can sprint from 0-62 mph in less than 3.5 seconds and offers over 310 miles of electric range. Production of Porsche’s Tesla Model S rival will start next year.
