The current owner brought the car to DP Motorsport already having had the Speedster bodywork done. Patrick and his team were then tasked with giving it an even more retro appearance, drawing inspiration from the pre-impact bumper 1970s F-model 911s. The smooth lines, lowered front bumper and wide rear arches give the car a recognizable yet unique look, accentuated by the striking Nardogrey paintwork. The light surrounds, door handles and other trim pieces are now a deep black which looks great against the orange Porsche decals running along each side. The interior is largely unchanged save for an Alcantara-covered steering wheel and metal shifter.

With the exterior completed, the next step is to upgrade the standard internals. The 218-hp 3.2-liter flat-six will receive updated camshafts, bigger throttle bodies and a new exhaust manifold to boost its output to around 260 hp. The handling will also benefit from a KW Clubsport adjustable suspension package and the end result should be a well-balanced retro-looking 911 Speedster with very satisfying performance. The care and attention given to these modifications should also ensure that the essence of this classic air-cooled 911 is not lost in the process.

Singer Brings Two Stunning Creations To The Detroit Auto Show

Porsche didn't come to Detroit, but Singer Vehicle Design did.

Porsche recently revealed the 2017 991.2 911 Carrera GTS and its many variants. The GTS may be the best 911 that money can buy without stepping up to the race-focused GT3 model, but it surprisingly was not the best 911 that debuted recently. Porsche didn't bother with the Detroit Auto Show this year, so Singer had the stage to itself. The two new cars, like other Singers, bear the name of the owners' cities of residence. So say hello to the red London coupe, and the blue Monaco coupe that graced the 2017 Detroit Auto Show with their presence.

Mechanically, both cars seem to be very similar, according to the provided spec sheets. Both cars are propelled by 4.0-liter air-cooled flat-six engines built by famous engine builder, Ed Pink. The power from the engines goes through a modified Getrag G50 manual transmission from a 964 911. The suspension is supplied by Ohlins and the brakes are Brembo units. These cars may look like classic 911 models, but they are made from extremely light carbon fiber panels. The London coupe uses Michelin Pilot Competition slicks, while the Monaco coupe has Michelin Pilot Sport PS2s. Each car was specifically spec'd out by its owner, meaning that no Singer is exactly like another.

Both cars have unique, retro interiors with woven leather carbon fiber seats. Anyone who wants to see the cars can visit Michelin's booth at the Detroit Auto Show for what will likely be the last time these cars are on display before entering their owners' collections.

This Is The Stunning All-New 2020 Porsche 911

After months of spy shots and rumors and a leak here and there, the eighth-generation Porsche 911 has finally arrived, making its live debut here at the 2018 LA Show. Code-named 992, the new 911 is unmistakably a 911, retaining its overall iconic shape and rear-engine setup. But this new 911 has a more muscular look, an all-new interior, and a new generation of turbocharged flat-six engines. Both 911 Carrera S and 4S come powered by an upgraded version of the twin-turbo 3.0-liter flat-six tuned to develop 443 hp – a 23 hp gain over the outgoing S models. Porsche claimed it achieved this additional power with improvements to the fuel injection system, higher compression ratio, and relocated intercoolers and turbochargers.

For now, a new eight-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission is standard but Porsche promises the seven-speed manual will return at a later date. These engine improvements and new gearbox add up to even better performance. Porsche says to expect the rear-wheel-drive 911 Carrera S to blast from 0 to 60 mph in only 3.5 seconds. The all-wheel drive 4S will do the deed in 3.4 seconds. Both figures are a 0.4-second improvement over its immediate predecessors.

Adding the optional Sport Chrono Package will decrease each of those times by two tenths of a second. Top speed has been clocked at 191 mph for the Carrera S and 190 mph for the 4S. Engineers also focused on new systems for increased safety and comfort, specifically Wet Mode. This new and standard feature detects water on the road, preconditions the stability control and anti-lock brake systems as necessary, and warns the driver about those road conditions. There’s also a camera-based warning and brake assist system, also standard, capable of detecting the risk of collision with moving objects, specifically other cars, and will initiate emergency braking if deemed necessary.

Other impressive pieces of safety tech include optional Night Vision Assist, which utilizes a thermal camera, Adaptive Cruise Control, and an Emergency Assist Function. But this is all mostly invisible to human eyes; what about the exterior design? Well, what can we say? It’s without question a Porsche 911. There are, however, several changes. Among them, the LED headlights are redesigned, as are the front and rear bumpers. The door handles are now electric units, and the taillights are much slimmer and feature a full-width LED bar.

Take a tape measure to both the 992 and the outgoing car and you’ll discover the wider wheel arches that increase overall width by exactly 1.77 inches up front. Rear body width is now the same width of the previous Carrera 4 and GTS, 72.9 inches. Those larger wheel arches can accommodate a wider 1.6-inch front track. To help reduce overall weight, every body panel on the car is now made of aluminum, the sole exceptions being the front and rear fascias. Wheel sizes are staggered with 20-inches up front and 21 at the rear. For 911 fans, Porsche also made a styling tribute to past 911s with the front hood’s pronounced contours and extending all the way to the bumper.

The all-new cabin takes inspiration from 1970s era 911s, most noticeably with the dashboard’s straight lines with recessed instruments. Both left and right of the centrally-located tachometer are two thin, frameless driver information displays. Under the 10.9-inch touchscreen is switch panel with five buttons that provide access to a number of vehicle functions. Adaptive 8-way sport seats with improved lateral support are optional.

For now, Porsche has only revealed the S and 4S models, so we don’t know just yet what the new base price will be for the Carrera and Carrera 4 models. But the 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera S will begin at $114,250, including the $1,050 destination fee. The 4S starts off at $121,650. Both prices are over $8,000 more than before, so we wouldn’t be surprised to see a similar increase for the base 911s as well. Both the S and 4S will arrive in dealerships next summer and Porsche is already taking orders.

Techart Bringing Stunning Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo To Geneva

Set for a world premiere next week at Geneva is this Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo tuned by German-based Techart. Techart calls it the GrandGT Supreme styling package, specifically for the Panamera Sport Turismo. Styling wise, it dramatically enhances the car’s presence, starting with a set of 22-inch wheels with the entire car painted in gorgeous racing green. Also added is a Techart sport exhaust system with titanium and carbon fiber tailpipes. But it’s the interior that’s received the most attention.

Techart’s in-house team of expert craftsman developed an un-embossed Nappa leather with a smooth and natural texture that covers the entire interior, including the footwell and door panels. The leather has been vegetable-tanned so that it’s free of chromium. Also take note, in the included photos, of some of the finer details, such as the handmade multi-color stitching and customized Techart sport steering wheel. Under the hood lies the Panamera Turbo’s 4.0-liter bi-turbo V8 whose output has been increased from 550 hp to 640 hp. This engine upgrade also reduces 0-62 mph time to just 3.4 seconds and 0-124 mph in 8.3 seconds.

Porsche showed off a new 911 Speedster concept, this time painted red, at this year’s Paris Motor Show. However, there were some other Porsches on display that activated our salivary glands. Coming straight from the official Porsche Museum in Stuttgart are these icons: 959, 911 GT1, Carrera GT, and 918 Spyder.

The 959 was the first all-wheel drive Porsche that launched back in 1986 and at the time was the world’s fastest street-legal production car with a top speed of 197 mph. It was also one of the most technologically advanced cars of its time. Its all-wheel drive tech was later applied to the 911, spawning the 911 Carrera 4.

It remains one of this writer’s favorite cars of all time. The 911 GT1 was the street-legal version of the GT1 class racing car. Although it was called ‘911’ it really didn’t have much in common with the regular 911 at the time, the 993. However, both shared a frontal chassis. The 911 GT1’s water-cooled, twin-turbo 3.2-liter flat-six came from the 962. Oh, this 911 in name only was also mid-engined.

The race going 911 GT1 was a huge racing success, winning its class at Le Mans. Only 25 examples of the street-legal version were made in 1997, all of which produced 536 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque.

Its successor was the Carrera GT, which didn’t arrive until 2003. Powered by a 5.7-liter naturally aspirated V10 rated at 603 hp and 435 lb-ft of torque, the sole transmission choice was a six-speed manual. It’s not a car for beginners, to say the least. Mid-engined and rear-wheel-drive, the Carrera GT has its roots in LMP1 endurance race cars, but never itself raced. A total of 1,270 units were made by the time production ended in 2007.

Lastly is the 918 Spyder, built from 2013 to 2015. Instead of the V10 it has a 4.6-liter V8 that’s also naturally aspirated but connected to a plug-in hybrid system. Not surprisingly, it sold out about a year after production began.

All of these iconic Porsches have one major thing in common: they were technological testbeds for their respective eras. What will come next? An all-electric high-performance supercar that builds on the Taycan sedan is a pretty good guess.
