Chris Harris Crashes Porsche 911 GT3 Touring Into A Pickup Truck

Luckily, nobody was injured in the collision, but the Porsche 911 GT3 Touring was badly damaged.

Chris Harris is starting to become as accident-prone as Richard Hammond. Earlier this year, the presenter had to escape from a burning Alpine A110 while filming for the last season of Top Gear, and now he’s been involved in an accident while driving a Porsche 911 GT3 Touring.

According to the BBC, Harris was driving the 911 GT3 Touring on a road near Tintern in Wales for a feature in Top Gear magazine, when he collided with a pickup truck attempting a three-point turn. A senior Top Gear magazine executive was also in the car at the time of the crash. Nobody was injured, luckily, but a photo taken from the scene shows the 911 GT3 was badly damaged as the front bumper, front fender and hood were destroyed.

An eyewitness said the Porsche slammed into the side of the pickup truck. “We can confirm that Chris Harris was involved in a car accident in Wales earlier today whilst working on a feature for Top Gear magazine,” a Top Gear spokesperson said. “Chris, his passenger [reportedly a senior executive from the magazine] and the driver of the other car, were unhurt and police were called to the scene.”

Harris has also commented about the accident on Twitter. “Came around a corner yesterday to find a pick-up doing a 3 point turn broadside, in the middle of the road. Unavoidable. Just one of those things,” he wrote. “The Porsche 911 looked after us brilliantly. No one hurt, cars can be replaced.” He also added that police have confirmed speed wasn’t a factor. “I wasn’t the one issued a penalty notice,” he added, implying that the driver of the pickup was at fault for the accident and charged by police.

Harris will return for the next season of Top Gear, which will air early next year. He will then be joined by new co-hosts Paddy McGuinness and Andrew 'Freddie' Flintoff, who will replace Matt LeBlanc and Rory Reid as main hosts when season 27 airs in late 2019.

Chris Harris Escapes Alpine A110 Fire During Top Gear Monaco Shoot

Fellow presenter and passenger Eddie Jordan also managed to bail.

It’s not always fun and games when you’re a Top Gear presenter. Just ask Chris Harris. According to the Telegraph and The Daily Mail, Harris and fellow presenter Eddie Jordan managed to escape from an Alpine A110 as it caught on fire during a production shoot in Monaco last Monday. Both were uninjured. Harris was driving the new sports car on Monte Carlo’s SS17 stage when he noticed the “engine management light” flick on.

It did not take long for him to figure out the problem, telling The Daily Mail “I first realized I needed to get out when I opened the door and the flames went up my arm.” Although Harris and Jordan are just fine, the Alpine A110 they were driving was not.

It’s a complete loss, and this, understandably, makes Harris hurt. “Sadly the car was lost and it always make me sad to see a beautiful car destroyed.” Jordan was equally pained by the car’s destruction. “Doing a stage of the Monte Carlo Rally was a dream come true for me. The car was stunning – so light on its toes. It was dancing around the mountain and Chris was driving it beautifully,” he said. “It’s such a shame we didn’t finish the test, but these things happen.” Top Gear also confirmed the incident, that both presenters are okay, and that Alpine is now investigating. Alpine’s spokesperson also acknowledged the fire, calling it a “technical incident.”

Until a reason for the fire is found and corrected, Alpine has “frozen all driving activities for pre-production cars.” Most importantly, however, is that both Harris and Jordan are safe and uninjured. Hopefully at least part of this segment will be shown to audiences at some point during the Top Gear season.
